Bellway Durham site manager recognised for commitment to quality

Bellway’s Pride in the Job Quality Award-winning site manager Anthony Church on site at Hedworths Green at Lambton Park with trainee assistant site manager Sophie Curtis.

The site manager in charge at Bellway’s Hedworths Green at Lambton Park development near Chester-le-Street has been rewarded for his dedication to building quality homes for their customers.

Anthony Church, 37, who lives in Newton Aycliffe, has received a Quality Award in the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) annual Pride in the Job Awards.

It is the third Quality Award of Anthony’s career as a site manager, and his second in successive years for Hedworths Green, following his 2025 win, when he also went on to achieve a prestigious Seal of Excellence in the next stage of the competition.

Anthony and his team are building 145 new homes at Hedworths Green, which is set within the historic 1,200-acre Lambton Estate. The development features a wide range of architectural styles to look as if it has evolved organically over centuries.

Anthony said: “To pick up my third NHBC Quality Award, on the back of last year's Seal of Excellence, is a fantastic feeling. A site with this level of detail is always a challenge to execute and get it right first time, despite facing tough material shortages along the way, the full site team stepped up to the plate. It takes total buy-in from every single person on site to win an award like this, and this recognition is a direct reflection of their hard work and dedication.”

The awards, which are now in their 45th year, are among the most highly-prized in the housebuilding industry, with only 449 from over 7,500 site managers inspected by the NHBC selected for the honour.

Judging for the awards is a rigorous process which encompasses every aspect of a site manager’s responsibilities, including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety. Spot checks are also carried out on the day-to-day running of the site.

Anthony will now go on to be judged in the next round of the competition – the Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards – which will be announced in the autumn.

Daniel Ferguson, Head of Construction for Bellway Durham, said: “Huge congratulations to Anthony for winning a Pride in the Job Quality Award this year.

“He has shown absolute dedication to meeting the rigorous standards required by the NHBC judges and has inspired his site teams to share the Pride in the Job ethos, which is vital to achieve this award.

“As a company we have targeted the Pride in the Job Awards as part of our strategic focus on quality, with best practice and expertise shared across the business.

“Anthony has been part of helping to create a culture in which our construction teams consistently build homes they would be proud to call their own. We hope his continued commitment to excellence will enable him to achieve even greater success in the next stage of the competition.”
