Jay Rosa Steals the Show at Darlington Sports Awards 50th Anniversary

Earlier this year, the Darlington Sports Awards marked their 50th year with a sold-out celebration at the iconic Darlington Hippodrome, guests were treated to a mix of powerful tributes, local sporting recognition — and an unforgettable performance from freestyle football star Jay Rosa.

Taking to the main stage during the evening’s entertainment, Rosa delivered a high-energy, high-skill routine that left the audience stunned. With his signature ball control, slick choreography, and infectious stage presence, Jay brought a fresh and youth-focused energy to the historic awards night.

Following his on-stage set, Jay continued the celebrations in the venue’s concourse — where he hosted an impromptu freestyle session, giving children and families the chance to learn tricks, take part in challenges, and experience the freestyle world up close.

“To perform at such a meaningful milestone for Darlington’s sporting community was really special,” said Rosa. “You could feel the pride in the room — and it was amazing to share freestyle football with a new audience.”

Jay is currently on a national stadium tour, launched in 2023, using freestyle football to spark conversations around mental health. With appearances across Premier League, EFL, and National League stadiums, his mission is to show how sport, creativity, and self-expression can be powerful tools for emotional wellbeing.

“Football freestyle was my way out — now I use it to connect with audiences and open up conversations about mental health.”

The Darlington Sports Awards 50th Anniversary was a night filled with community pride, inspiration, and standout performances — and Jay Rosa’s presence made it even more memorable.
