If you have been inspired by watching the Chelsea Garden Show on TV, or by visiting one of the many Stately Homes in the region, but then thought you could not recreate what you’ve seen in your small plot, this could help!
If you have ever driven through the delightful village of Staindrop and wondered what lies behind the 17th and 18th century houses clustered around the wide greens, then this is your chance to find out.
From 2pm on 21 June there will be 12 gardens of all shapes and sizes to visit. Water features, fruit and vegetables, prize leeks, flower borders and some less common trees will delight visitors. You are sure to pick up tips and ideas for your own garden.
For children there will be a ‘find the soft toy’ competition and in Scarth Hall will be delicious teas with home baked cakes. Staindrop Honey will be for sale and there will be a plant stall.
The Saxon Parish Church will be open and will fascinate anyone with an interest in history. Records show it had a resident hermit as far back as 1336, and the connection with the Nevilles lasted until the C16th.
Admission is £5 with proceeds divided between the village Christmas Lights, Annual Carnival, Church and Scarth Hall.
